Function First Forge
How It Came To Be
Looking back in time, I remember that as a child I was quite into swords and knives. It was in middle school that I got my first taste of blacksmithing in the shop of a Viking reenactor; I made a small blacksmiths knife. It was only at the end my senior year when I made my own setup… and it was bad! It was a hole in the ground with a leaf blower pointed at the fire within it. For the anvil, a mild steel plate screwed into a log dug into the ground. As inconvenient as it was, it allowed me to forge at my house whenever and however I wanted. I have since taken what I learned in high school engineering classes and used it to make stronger, more functional items.
I hate planned obsolescence.. I love the right to repair!
